But your "given can be anywhere" is incorrect, because distance "A" is limited....

Post your file!

<< because distance "A" is limited
I said a reasonnable length / Point ;)
we have yet infinite possibility with my image of the previous post with this "trivial solution"!
A = 4,472136 unity in this case
If you take A = 5 and same point...you must find another angle...for cut...

Here a file but you have no need a file! ;)

Hi Tyler ok sorry I didn't understand fully before about keeping the line at the same angle.

If I understand you correctly now, you can use the Transform > Move tool to do that if you set up a construction line to help get the snap point you need.

You'd start by putting the line onto one of those lines like this:

Select the line to move and run the Transform > Move command. Now you need to set up a construction line like this to help you get the snap you want:

The way you make a construction line is to press the mouse button down and keep it held down while you are dragging it. You want to snap the ends of the construction line onto the ends (or anywhere is ok) of the upper line that is being touched already. So you'll initially have the construction line going right over top of that line. Now you want to move that construction line over, you can do that by pressing and holding the mouse button down for 1 second or so on the little chevron that pops up, see here for more details:
http://moi3d.com/3.0/docs/moi_command_reference11.htm#constructionlines , on the menu that pops up after holding down the button there, choose "Relocate cline" and you'll be able to move the construction line to a different area while keeping it in the same orientation. This way you can basically capture a direction and apply it to a different spot.

After your construction line is relocated to the other end of the line being moved, you then want to use these 2 snap points for the Move command:

Hopefully that is what you needed? Please let me know if I still did not get it quite right though.

- Michael

@Burr, is there something I need to look at for the youtube embed codes still?

Hi michael,
Well, not really for me, but you may want to look at that for the forum later. Here's the jist:

Youtubes embed is an iframe code tag when "not logged into a youtube account".. when "logged in" they seem to be wrapping it in html5 div container, which no longer embeds in the forum properly. I left my first post with this code intact so you can reference it if you wanted.

So, i dont really need anything anymore. Its just a note for you now... thanks

No, it doesn't work out that way.

""""""""""What if the number is 5?""""""""""""""

It really is more of a SIM calculation and not something CAD really does.

Maybe this is something MAX can tackle with Node Editor. Something like Anchor constraints need to be applied to use the basic snap mechanics. But it will be complex. He may have to look at some type of library to integrate....

I follow your explanation but seems with this file I must miss something! :)

Yes! In this case double anchors! (or maybe a very tricky geometric construction - that i wish of course! ;)
(geometric because mathematical is not yet very cumfortable for my very old neurons! :)

You guys are AWESOME! Thank you so much everyone for your kind help, knowledge and experience. Haha, I am embarrassed now because it is such a simple (and obvious) solution!

Thanks again Michael, really appreciate your very simple explanation of a fairly complex action.

I love the simplicity of MoI and completely agree with Michael that it needs to be a strict focus to keep it simple rather than clutter it with complicated UI. The things achievable with MoI already surpases many other 3D applications for modelling. Keep up the great work!

Looking forward to purchasing v4.0 ;)

""""Or maybe a tricky geometric construction"""""""

Unfortunately it wont be one of those. It will have to be 2 anchor points that can slide around, in real time.

hi

For this kind of problem, i use SOLVESPACE witch is a free 2D and 3D solver.

Sure i know that!)
see my French site :) (that I must update! )
http://moiscript.weebly.com/solvespace.html

but it is a shame that a simple geometric construction don't make this simple thing!

Before a tricky plugin or anchor(s) function!

It's a delicious headache for insomniac! :)

Hi Tyler,

> Thanks again Michael, really appreciate your very simple

You're welcome, I'm glad that does what you needed! But yes if you have too many more constraints like "keep this angle", "this must be equal to that", "at a specific length" you can get into things where you can't really draw it by picking points or extending lines like you could in this case. For those things a solver is needed and Solvespace is a nice one for that.

I do still hope to be able to add constraints into MoI eventually as well too.
