Hello everyone, I hope all is well.
I have been trying to model the above subject and it's turning out to be
quite a challenge. I downloaded the references from blueprints.com
and i'm am using references from google to ensure I get the
right shape. The head of the gun has been quite tough to figure out.

Not sure where to start and how to put all the pieces together.
Any advise will be a great help!

Attached please my file and the images.

Cheers!
Sandeep.

As crazy as it sounds, start with the barrel. This enables you to then get the slides' width from the front view and to get the shroud that wraps over the barrel for the foresight. Once you have the curvature right for the slide body, you then need to switch to top view to trim the curved surfaces at the front of the slide where it blends toward the muzzle of the barrel. I modelled a concept Beretta 9mm just for fun about a year or so ago and the slide is definitely the hardest/trickiest part.

Hi Sandeep, you also might want to take a look at http://grabcad.com to find some existing models that you could load and get some ideas on how you might structure different pieces.

Hello Martin, it's not a crazy idea to start with the barrel...
that is where i initially started, but after a week... it just wasn't working out.
Let me have another crack based on the feedback in the forum.

Thanks!
Sandeep.

Hello Keith!
Thank you for giving this a 'shot'..! and congratulations!
I am still stuck at the main barrel. I am studying your file.
I wish you had left your original curves in the file so that I could see how
you went about making the shapes.

It is super encouraging to see that it can be done.
I will share my attempt as soon as I get some where : )

Please do re-post the file if you do the original curves in the file.

Speak soon.
Cheers.

Hi
I keep stages in case I need to revert. As you will see I never keep all the lines (although I probably should). What I did a lot was use filet and variable filet. I started with the grips first and then the frame. I had to remake the frame after I mirrored it when having difficulty filleting one side and later discovered the gun is not symmetrical. I also foolishly did nit see that that profile of the rear of the slide has to match the upper rear part of the frame. I also found it hard to juge the depth of the frame at various points from the front.

I attach the only early version that has construction lines. Good luck.

Keith

Thanks Keith, i really appreciate it the breakdown.
I have gone about it a different way, but i totally agree, it's not easy
and super tricky at different stages.

I ill share my progress on the forum before the end of the year hopefully. Lol!

Thank you again, especially for the files.
Cheers.

Sandeep.

Hello everyone!
I know it's been a while! After asking for your help, I have been taking my time to
figure things out and try everything to make this model.

Attached is what I managed to do. Thank you so much for all the advise.
I cheated in some bits and improvised in others. It has definitely been a learning curve.

I know it's not perfect, but I will keep at it! Your comments are welcome!
Cheers.

Sandeep.

Hi
It has some challenging bits, that's for certain. I found that texturing in 3d Coat made a huge improvement to the final model that I made. I see that you used a different approach to modelling too. It turned out well.
Regards
Keith
