To reduce ALL points on a curve I use > reconstruct curve.

But what if I want to reduce the points on a selected segment of a curve -
is there a script for that purpose ?

Hi Tom, the only way to do that would be to run Edit > Separate on the curve first, then select the segment to rebuild. It would be difficult to make a script for this right now because there isn't any way to select just a segment of a curve instead of the whole curve.

If I >join< the segments again I will get two corner points.
Is there a faster way to replace corner points with smooth points
than to add a smooth point manually and delete the sharp one ?

Hi Tom, sorry no there isn't currently a faster way to do that, although I do want to add a way to do that more easily, like have an option in the properties panel to switch between corner or smooth on the selected edit point. If you can remind me about it when the v4 betas are going I can do something about it then.
