Lofting, sweeping doesn't seem to work for this

Hi,

Probably a super easy question for most.

I'm trying to create this simple pyramid-like solid structure but can't seem to make it work. Tried lofting and sweeping but both don't work.

Could someone please explain how to create a solid?

Many thanks!

Gunter

Hi gunter, I'd probably try Loft with the "Loft Style = Loose" option.

To do it, copy the bottom profile up a bit, and create a point object that's in the same plane as the upper profile like this:

Then select the profiles in order, bottom one first, then upper one, then the point object. Then run Construct > Loft and set the "Loft Style" option to "Loose" like this:

Or another way you could do it by controlling the side profile would be to set up a vertical profile curve like this and use Construct > Rail > Rail revolve:

So Michael,

I just realised, it works well but if I want sharp corners it doesn't.

The corners are rounded. How would I get sharp edges along the yellow line?

Thank you in advance!
Gunter

Hi Gunter, well the corners are round because all the curve corners are round, the generated surface will follow the same shape as the curves.

If you want to make it become sharp as it goes upwards, try making a sharp cornered profile curve for the top curve, like this:

It would also be good to configure the bottom curve so that it's made up of 3 segments that align with the segments of the sharp curve, see attached 3DM file.
