It's not a known issue - it definitely looks like a bug.

Can you please send me the .3dm model file, you can e-mail it to me at moi@moi3d.com if you like to keep it private.

Once I have the .3dm model file that will let me try to reproduce the problem over here which would help out a lot for tracking down and debugging the problem.

Just what you've already been doing - adjust the angle slightly. The bug is likely to involve some particular arrangement of points.
