This may be common knowledge for many MoI users.

If not, you'll want to know that McMaster-Carr has an extensive 3D CAD library for their products, which includes common mechanical parts you may want to use in your projects.

Visit www.mcmaster.com/
Go to a product catagory page.
Click on a product.
A pop-up tab opens to allow you to enter the order quantity.
This tab also has a link titled "Product Detail"
Click the Product Detail link to open a drawing of the part.
In the drop-down box select "3-D Step"
Click the SAVE button.
The Windows web browser dialog opens with an option to "Open with:"
Select MoI 3D from the browser drop-down and click OK.
MoI opens with your part, ready for editing.

Hi Ed,

Thanks. a lot.
Yes, I already knew ad I often use www.mcmaster.com/

But it seems that the possibility to download cad files, is enabled only for simple objects and not for complex objects.
For example for the complete object shown by this picture http://take.ms/qrXG4, there isn't a relative cad file.

Am I wrong ?

Best,

mkdm -

The purpose of the CAD library is to allow people to design projects using their mechanical components, and hopefully order those components on-line.

For that reason, I wouldn't expect them to have CAD files for finished commercial products like power tools.
