Michael, the upcoming V4 release will be x64. Will this affect its ability to run in Wine on a Linux platform?

Hi Sebastian, hopefully it should run in a 64-bit build of Wine. I have not tested this yet though so I don't know if there are any issues that would get in the way. It definitely won't work with a 32-bit Wine though.

Its not a deal breaker but it would add to the number of pro level CAD packages for Linux. Currently the only other option for me would be VariCAD. Trying to move from Windows.

Hi Sebastian,

You also have Siemens NX (Unigraphics) that runs on Linux, https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/docs/nx/10.0.1/en_US/release_notes.pdf page #12

Also they mention it needs either Red Hat or Suse. Personally I like Suse but I believe it doesn't play nice with Wine (required for Moi)

Hi,
a while ago I read, that NX is a shortcut for Nonsense cliXs. Now I'm working with it and it's true.
If I would paid in mouse-miles and clicks, I would be a rich man.
Not worth the money, but companies policy.

Interesting. I had a similar experience with Creo. Creo is so bad I once turned down a job because they used Creo.

Karsten what version? We just upgraded to 10, first time using the new Ribbon Bar, what a piece of crap and the amount of things that pop up on the screen in front of you is ridiculous.

Hi Sebastian
I am sorry to contradict you
but since they use Catia
I can tell you it's the best of modelers
parametric, with modules for surfaces
high performance
and the interface is spectacular and practical
look at the attachment
best

Hello Pilou,

base system round about 400-500€/month 36Month leasing. Assembly, Part, Wireframe+Surface, drafting, Step ..., but I don't know which functions are availible in the actual version - Dassault has changed the functionality of a modul very often in the past - so I think put some € on top;-)

Have a nice day
Karsten

p.s.: If you buy 100-200 floating licences, you will get a better price;-)

€ 400 - € 500 per month for a piece of software?! I almost fell from my chair here. I used to renew my 3ds Max license for about € 650 per year, and I already found that too much, so I went for Blender, MoI and ZBrush, and never looked back. :D

Speedy, I have been using Catia for some time now. I am well aware of its capabilities. And it remains my opinion that Catia looks totally dated when compared to other software packages.

Hello Metin,

>>>>€ 400 - € 500 per month for a piece of software?!

Yes! And you need some other software to work for the automotive industry -> DDX, Q-Checker, SAP ....
But, the calculation for the costs are a little bit different. e.g. If you work 100h/month with it, you will pay 5€/h. Some industries have a complete toolchain from the draft/design to all follwing processes like production, quality managment, order, reliability managment, ..... -> PLM. A typical engineer in automotive costs 55-80€ per hour. A small project cost 500.000€ with 1000h-1500h catia(typical 1-1,5 years development time), a SAP license 2500€/year ...
The company I was working for, had up to 500 floating licenses ...
I agree with you, that's a lot of money, but it helps to see it as fixed cost like you have for a milling machine or a CNC-lathe.

Have a nice day
Karsten

Hello bigseb
I do not want to make any polemic, but
it does not seem right ...
Did you see the CatiaV6 with the new interface, the modules
Image and Shape with Obj importer , Surface Icem , etc. etc ,
and all the performance of Automation Module
Knowledge Pattern, Advisor etc etc ... ?
Are you sure of what you say?
have a nice day

al

Ps-.... forgot
just a detail , I use catia with good ability
for about 12 years ........
