Possibly a silly question but how do I install this on my mac? I can't open the app and get an error occurred starting the X11 server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi Carbon_Shriek, Apple made some chanages in El Capitan that broke MoI v2 and v3.0 but there is a version 3.1 update available now for v3 which fixes that.

To get the version 3.1 update, put in your v3 license key here: http://moi3d.com/reinstall.htm , that should get you running on El Capitan.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the prompt response. Looking at my downloads I have the latest version MoI v3.1
When I click on the MoI icon it momentarily flashes up in the application bar and then vanishes.

Kind regards,

Hi Carbon_Shriek, please try doing a system reboot and also check very carefully that you are actually launching version 3.1 and not the original version 3.0 .

What happens if you launch it directly from your downloads folder?

What you are describing is exactly what happens when running version 3.0 on El Capitan but I have not had any prior reports of it happening with the updated version 3.1 .

Hi Michael,

Seems a simple reboot fixed the problem. I should have known the first thing you do to fix a problem is 'turn it off, turn it on'

Many thanks for the assistance!

Kind regards,

Spoke too soon. The app crashed and upon re-opening the app I get the same issue. The icon appears and then disappears.

Hi Carbon_Shriek, you're welcome and I'm glad that you're going ok now!

For the next version of MoI I've been working on a major overhaul of the Mac version to make it a native compiled version which simplifies things quite a bit and should hopefully make it less sensitive to future OS changes.

Hmmm, well I don't know why you'd have that same problem as 3.0 using version 3.1 ...

Here's something you can try though - try installing the latest system XQuartz which you can get from here: https://www.xquartz.org/ , then set MoI to use that system installed XQuartz instead of the one that's bundled along with it.

To change the setting in MoI to use the system XQuartz, right-click on the .app and choose "Show package contents" and run the Wineskin.app that you will find in there. Inside there push the "Advanced" button and then on the next dialog go to the Options tab. Then the settings to change are the bottom 2 checkboxes on that page - uncheck "use wrapper's quartz-wm" and check the "use System XQuartz" and see if that makes any difference.
