Hi! Been a long time since I posted.

I have a tough one here. Its a split line surface for a mould. Originally designed in Catia its was sent to us as a step file and typical of Catia models its is full of holes. Anyway I am attaching the splitline file and would really appreciate some pointers on getting these surfaces to join. Specifically:

The lilac surface are joined already. Its the orange ones that are problematic, particularly the dark orange one butting up against the lilac.

TIA.

Hi there

i separated the already joined areas and there were elements stacked on top of each other. up to 3 copies, but it differs..green part f.i. had just 1 copy

you just have to clean up..joining the rest of those parts shouldn't be a problem then

Hi Seabastian,

exactly as Marco mentioned...too many copies, splitted edges and overlapped various objects.

Please find attached jointed surface, hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I knew there were double surfaces, but whenever I tried to delete them it deleted everything. Not sure what I was missing.

Now the next question: even when I tried to rebuild a surface using adjacent surfaces (like a blend, for example) it still would not join. why is that. What method did you use?

Also, even though it is now a joined surface, using the naked edges script still shows a ton of naked edges. How can it be a joined surface but have naked edges?

Hi Sebastian,

re:

In MoI something is called a "Joined surface" if it's an object made up of more than one face (and so joined together along some edges) but isn't a solid because it has some naked edges in it. If there are no naked edges it will be called a "solid" instead of just a "Joined surface".

There are still some remaining doubled and tripled surfaces in those areas where you're seeing internal naked edges.

I've attached one here that's closer yet, with more doubled and tripled surfaces removed. Still at least one area that looks like it will need some reconstruction though.
