Hi Chri, thanks very much for the examples!

So if I understand correctly, you're currently getting this done by setting up that diamond with 9 copied objects in it and then applying the proper rotations to each object?

Would it perhaps be better to automate that object copying and transformation process with a command that generated 9 objects from one, rather than having it do Make2D output only? Because then you'd have a few more options like being able to export to PDF or AI format to get the shaded background underlay, or doing Make2D on the Top view in just one more step... ?

Also for your methodology, how is the size of the diamond determined?

hi Michael

Perhaps the size of the diamond could be a parameter for the "automatic layout" generation .
( in a first time , it can be for example (part size) x4 if the part is cubic ).

I think , that , like in all Cad program , you need to choose and ajust the best views during the dimensionning .
The final result can't be automatic. ( "automatic layout" is only a step before manual final layout ).

Hi Chri, for long pieces maybe it could be possible to err on the "more spacing" side by using the maximum of width or height to make each cell size.

But does an object duplication and rotation mechanism sound like it would do the job for you? Like select an object, run an "AutomaticLayout" command, and it generates your diamond of 9 copied and rotated objects for you, then you can Make2D or export to PDF as you see fit.
