Hi folks. Somehow, I've lost my original Moi file for this piece. I only have the STL I made for 3D printing. Could someone please convert this so I can open it with Moi for updating?

Thanks!

Chris

1. Meshlab, stl to obj.
2. MoI script by Max, "ImportObj

The resulting solid has lots of triangles.

SubDivBeta9 appears to have no effect.

Theres a free remeshing app here http://igl.ethz.ch/projects/instant-meshes/ that does a reasonable job making quads.

It helps to play with the settings to understand how it works, and its possible to modify the flow by drawing guiding lines on the object. The auto generated flow tend to work pretty good though.

After considerable curve fitting, sweeps and unions, a solid resulted.
As the initial profile was not planar, the result may be slightly different than
the original model. (?)

I'm out of freespace so cannot upload.

A little tricky but infinite for free public & open source storage! ;)

Hi Pilou,

please don't recommend github for uploading such files! It is intended for programmers uploading their open source code!

There are plenty of free file hosting services available, if storage is getting short here.

Stefan

Hello twofoot,

DO you happen to have measurements for this model or did you produce it freehand? I converted the items in Rhino using the meshtonurb command and loaded into MoI but measurements seem to be slightly off, likely due to the conversion to polys when getting it back into NURBS. It may be easier just to reference measurements if you have them and recreate the model, although it is a nice little exercise in reverse engineering.

When I see the video above by Daniel Shiffmann, this is not what he said!
Minutes 0.40 "you can host any thing..." I suppose that he knows what he said! :)

Pilou, use common sense, please...

Github is known for years to host *source code* projects from programmers and when he says you can upload anything he refers to source code (in his case .js etc.) projects and no binary zip files etc., which *you* and others can upload to popular file hosting sites.

Maybe Michael and others programmers can tell you this too.

Pilou, here is in example page, when searching for example for a base64 encoder/decoder *source code*.

Hosting binaries or .zip archives is no good idea because people would not know what the file contains, like viruses from Windows users etc.

You can see on my picture on the top left how many base64 encoders are written in what language, which people can choose to download.

Hope this helps you to change your mind about github usage!

P.S. what would be of course a good idea imho is when MoI users would upload there MoI JavaScripts to Github too, so in case their own side goes down we we would have it on Github! :-)

Regards
Stefan

Sorry cross posting!
He has Uploaded simple poems who have nothing to do with any code!

But I want to believe you!
So tell us some free other famous free popular sites for Folder/file hosting !

<< One of the main misconceptions about GitHub is that it’s a development tool, as much a part of coding as computer languages and compilers. However, GitHub itself isn’t much more than a social network like Facebook or Flickr. You build a profile, upload projects to share and connect with other users by “following” their accounts. And while many users store programs and code projects, there’s nothing preventing you from keeping text documents or other file types in your project folders to show off.

Many years ago Dropbox became very popular among 3D users for example.

Here is a link which (when googling for it) shows you more free solutions.

Hello twofoot,

Here are the STLs converted to 3DM. I haven't included any reverse engineered models in the file but MoIs snapping made it fairly easy to get this back from a faceted model. Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

> Please let me know how to get 3dm files with embedded image preview.

Currently the only way to get an embedded image in the 3DM file is to save your file from Rhino. MoI does not currently have an option for generating the embedded thumbnail image. It is something that I want to work on in the future though.
