Hi Marco, I'm undergoing a major rewrite for MoI v4, so there will be a longer than usual amount of time between the v3 and v4 releases. I'm making good progress but there is still a lot of work left to do so it will still be a while longer yet. I don't have any news yet about a specific release date.

Hi Michael,

i guess that you are doing an hard work!

The truth is that we are never satisfied...
maybe V4 will also have a function to make coffee or blow conditioned air from laptop's cpu cooler!! :) :)

I wish you good work!

Marco (mkdm)

Michael,

Looking forward to V4. What a great piece of software, I use it on a daily basis. It has transformed how I design and layout projects.

Keep up the good work,

Craig

Will it "only" a rewrite or do you plan to implement some new major features, too?

Hi 3image,

I'm working on completing the rewrite first and after that I do hope to work on some new features as well.

All good work takes time and thought and your development of moi so far has been first class. All good things are worth waiting for!. So many products these days that hit the streets on a scheduled planned time frame only to find out that they are full of bugs and cause discontent among the people that use the products. The rewrite to a 64 bit version must be a major undertaking but my belief is that it will be well worth the time and effort.

You have one of the best 3d mindsets I have come across in recent years Michael and a real feel for what people actually want as tools they will use everyday instead of presumed idea's with lots of extra's that people will only use occasionally.

An x64 version is absolutely necessary for me, because I have to load some huge Step files from time to time that can hardly be splitted. IĀ“m exited what will come in V4.

I agree 100% with what Michael (ORION20036) has said.....

I use MoI in my work and can find no other program that comes even close to this......

Hi Michael

Regarding V4 rewrite one thing that might be useful if its possible is a countdown bar for processing command calculations
I am pushing MOI sometimes with complex sculptural forms and I do not know if its going to takes seconds or hours to process a command - if it estimates hours I would abort immediately but minutes I might wait

Fantastic software by the way

Hi Andy, re: countdown bar - unfortunately it's very difficult to estimate the amount of calculation needed for many operations. Often times CAD calculations work by a kind of iterative refinement approach where an intersection or solution starts out rough and then is refined with additional passes until the result is within tolerance. With this kind of "iterate until within tolerance" operation it's very difficult to estimate before hand how many iterations will be required.

So unfortunately , it's not likely to be technically possible to give the kind of estimate you're looking for on every command. I do want to add a progress bar for file imports though.

Hi Marc, I've been making good progress recently, more and more systems getting functional. A couple of the biggest areas left to do are the viewport display engine and then figuring out if I'm going to be able to switch to a different geometry kernel for v4.

But things are starting to get a bit easier to port over because more of the building blocks are in place.

Hi Michael, there must not be a thousand options for geometry kernels, it was Solids++ in Moi right?
Would switching involve more coding ? I imagine the routines would differ ?

Hi Marc,

> it was Solids++ in Moi right?

Yup, that's correct.

> Would switching involve more coding ? I imagine the routines would differ ?

Yes, everything is similar in general principle but the specifics are all different and so there's a lot of work involved.
