I need to ask if is possible to develop a CAM module for MoI3D, so no need to save the files in MoI and import afterwards into another CAM program to generate the gcode for CNC machines. This will be of tremendous help for a lot of peoples.

Just recreate a program like Aspire v8☺. A gargantuan task IMHO.

Have you seen this old open source plugin for MAX? http://www.cnc-toolkit.com/
I always wondered what would take to make some similar in MOI3D since its script language seems to be much more powerful.

I think you are better off using the CAM program available to you. MOI is my weapon of choice to clean imported CAD-Data and to export it to iges/step for our CAM-programs. The way MOI is designed, it was meant to design 3d Objects with very commands. Now i use some scripts from the forum to heal imported CAD-data faster than i could do it in SolidWorks or Rhino or Inventor. It works perfect for me. But to create CNC-code, someone would have to spend years to create something for MOI, which would be against the way Michael Gibson created MOI. MOI is the perfect companion tool for healing CAD-data, creating amazing other things, but you would never get the support one gets with a real CAM-program.

Hi artisanicview,

Sorry but probably not possible for quite some time to come yet.

It's not really feasible for me to develop it myself because for one thing I don't have a lot of experience in CAM and the other thing is that there is still a lot of work that I'd like to do in the modeling area where MoI is focused on.

In the future it could be possible for some other party to develop a third party plug-in for that, but that's also not really feasible currently because I do not yet have an extensive system for doing very detailed and elaborate plugins, it takes a lot of time and effort to document and also support that kind of thing and that's also not an area that I'm focused on doing with MoI yet either. In the future I would like to work on this area more though.

But MoI is designed to be a focused modeling program and part of that means working together with other programs to do different tasks that are outside of modeling.

- Michael

Thanks! Well, that's one less step. I use Bobcad and I find IGS is the best format for MOI3D to export and import from Bobcad.
