Pattern generator as guilloché

Dear All,

I have a deep daily use of Moi3d for watches design, and as one of the main tool for design and quick shape 3D, I start even the dial with Moi or I search some new ideas within Moi.

I try a lot of stuff, around here but nothing like a guilloché, the pattern you can find on banks note.
Or also the linear pattern attribute with repeat angle and variable distance through a reference distance in x and combine in the radius too , can be ultra fun.

It can be really cool to develop those not so complex not only rotational copies, but also linear copies with a distance generate, as a copy of the first linear pattern, mostly for decoration or a tooling path....

It's also the way to make weaving pattern, or even some new ideas can make those linear copy pretty unique.

Can be really cool to have a special instrument for this....

Any help? Or plug ins to share? Scripting devils here?

Thank you already, and long life to Moi

Bob

Hi Bob, do you have any sample models or even just illustrations of the type of output you're looking for? That would help a lot to better understand what you're looking for.

Max Smirnov has several different advanced array generation tools which may be of use, they would probably be worth investigating:

Array3D: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=7574.10 http://moi.maxsm.net/item/47#top

Radial pattern: http://moi.maxsm.net/item/53#top

There are some other array like tools here too:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=7574.5

One of the ones from the last link above is "ScriptArray" which is a base script that modifies stepping and rotation for each array instance, and you can edit the script to produce different effects for how the movement and rotation of each step is decided:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5595.18

If you need something that's different from any of the above mechanisms it would probably help to have some examples.

I suppose contextfree can do the same :)
http://www.contextfreeart.org/

But you must write ten lines by yourself! ;)

or this one
http://www.hypatiasoft.fr/Folder_KnotsBag/Pages_HTML/KnotsBag_A.html

and of course the last Nodes Editor of MOi! ELEPHANT!
(By Max Smirnov the mad scientist! ;)
Sorry here in French but...very graphic ! Array Circular
You can of course increase the number Max of repetitions! (here 100)
That I love is the ultima simplicty for infinite very complex results! :)
And you can take any thing :3D Point(s), 3D line(s), 3D curve(s), 3D surface(s), 3D volume(s)

Thank you, appreciate ...yes it's exactly the same level of eterations that I need, eccentro goes even further to take a tree out of it and link forms at the top of the tree and affect them with the array you need and also different options through the lines you need.

I will try all and will comeback with some results , wait and see....

Thank you so much.

Hello,

If you happen to use CorelDRAW:

http://www.oberonplace.com/products/securidesign/index.htm

It's $15 but it has a trial available to see if it is what you need. I've also found their Curveworks utility to be very useful in cleaning up outlines generated in MoI.

Hello,

Also of interest is Inkscape's clone tiling function:

The instructions :
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Tiles.html

A basic tutorial :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPGF8rzVKHw

It supports the 17 types of symmetries and you can export to pdf then import into MoI.
