I was looking at it some yesterday myself and I love the graphical look and feel of it but it seems to be missing the #1 key functional feature which is to have a topics list on the left and a reading pane on the right which is an important feature for me for rapidly reading through new posts...

I'm probably not too likely to switch to something that would require constant back and forth navigation in order to read several messages. Also it's only in beta release currently and not in stable release as of yet.

Hi Michael,

the side-pane is implemented already. By moving the mouse to the left side of the screen/browser window the discussion-list pane will slide out, but this can be pinned either via the icon or via config. As it is basically a slide-out menu, it will play rather well with most responsive UX approaches.

Hi Marco that's great, I didn't notice that at first glance. This might be worth checking out in more detail once it has hit a stabilized milestone.

It's kind of set up a little weird though - the reason why I didn't notice it at first was that it does not seem to appear on the initial forum main page, it seems to only be an option once you have started to read a message... ?

How do you get the side pane to show up right from the start like when going directly to http://discuss.flarum.org/ ?

Still it's very promising that it at least has it - a persistent topics list is almost always missing from forums.

Hi Pilou,

> And what about actual datas of this site ?

The content of this forum is stored in a MySQL database that runs on the webserver.

> Does it possible to implement them in the new forum?

It's possible but I'd probably have to write some custom code to move the data over to a new forum. So moving messages might involve quite a bit of work.

Michael,

There's no "attachements" yet in Flarum but it's coming in the new versions
We need to keep an eye on this as it seems very promising :)

Hi Samuel, yes it's looking good, definitely the most promising one that I've seen around.

It seems to be based off of the organization style that I like which is a continuous stream of new messages with "tags" as a way to group them into categories.

The default look and feel is very nice.

I'd definitely agree that it would be good to keep an eye on it.

But it's likely that any switch over would involve a fairly substantial amount of work from me though.

One thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't seem to support Windows Server right now, so I'd have to set up a new server environment for it to run. This can be quite an undertaking to learn about setting things up so as not to run into security problems.
