Hi Chris - often times text can have badly formed curves, which don't affect their original purpose of 2D printing but can be bad for 3D geometry purposes such as filleting.

In your case here there are some small sized segments which then converted into very thin slivery faces in the extrusion and those will complicate filleting.

Here I've circled and zoomed in some to show you the problem areas:

The filleting will fail if it would cause a face to be totally consumed away to nothing, that will be easy to have happen with such small slivery faces in the shape.

Then the other thing that is difficult for filleting is dealing with very pronounced angles between pieces which is common with text.

These issues can tend to make filleting of text to be difficult.

- Michael

Hi Chris

Moi solid Text in Arial for 948, approximately the same size as yours, fillets nicely at 1 mm.

Hi Chris:

Michael showed right where are problem areas :)
I suggest a little modification mantaining main shape

Select text's curves,copy and move

turn on points, delete that little line and move vertex

in case of -4- you'll have two triangles

now you'll able to fillet to 1,5 mm

Yes...it's for indetify outern triangle and inner triangle, about -4- on third image,it's a close up and could be not clear which area i'm showing
4-i = 4 inner (interno)
4-e= 4 outern (esterno)

forgive me i did it quickly...i mix Italian and English..some tolerance.. :)

Many times i found same problems when filleting solid fonts,so i decided to show this "shortcut": simplify or use rebuild command to clean points of font splines before extrude.
