qmc is already using cycles with obj import with quite good results. He talks about it here: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=7419.1

BUT the way it works makes things easy for the Sketchup + MOI User who don't have the time to go deep into Blender Cycles ... : http://blendup.spread3d.com/features
I think Sketchup/MOI users (Architects /designers) are not the same as usual Blender users ! (3D graphics professionnals/geeks).

Maybe that's why Cycles Render engine is going to be a stand-alone render engine.

But it's not really a Blender spirit product because it's not free! :) (Spread 3D)

Or the convertor alone is really free ?

It looks to me like a subscription model payment.

"Buy now BlendUp for 35$ instead of 70$ on BlenderMarket", on Blender Market place : https://cgcookiemarkets.com/blender/all-products/blendup-sketchup-to-blender-converter/

" BlendUp exports clean geometries with quads and n-gons

Standard exporters like Collada create unorganized triangles sets with duplicated vertices, wrong normals and incorrect texture coordinates. Because of that, you need to spend hours cleaning your model. BlendUp ensures that the exported Blender geometries match as much as possible to the source SketchUp geometries. SketchUp faces are translated into quads and Blender n-gons. No vertex is duplicated and custom split normals are created. Front and back materials are defined for each polygon as applied in SketchUp.".
