SavePointFile doesn't work

Hello,

I need to export points from a geometry (x,y,z) but SavePointFile doesn't work. Neither in Moi v3 nor v2. The export menu doesn't appear. There's only a button menu on the right asking "Select points to export" Done. Nothing about delimiters or filename as shown in the description. Nothing happens when clicking Done.

What's the problem?

S.

Please post .3dm.

Are you trying to export control points?

Does the Types menu show any points?
- Brian

Edit: Seems like SavePointFile script only works with Points, not control points...

You could array points on your curve... (?)

Hi simba,

> What's the problem?

It's hard to tell just looking at a screenshot - like Brian writes above please post your 3DM model file as well and that would make it possible to know for example if you are trying to export control points there or "point objects" which is what SavePointFile would be trying to use.

If you have curve control points turned on and you want to export those, you will have to convert them into point objects first, which you can do by selecting the control points and then using Ctrl+C copy and then Ctrl+V paste.

Well, I learned something new about Moi today!

Select curve, turn on control points, select curve and control points, deselect curve.
On Edit menu, hit Copy then Paste. control points are now "point objects."

Hi simba,

I'm guessing you would like to export x,y,z coordinates along the length of the curve - perhaps at either a user-selected x interval or a given number of stations?

If I understand correctly exactly what's on offer within the arsenal of MoI JavaScript - and the explanation Michael gave me recently, there are no direct methods available by which to return y ordinates on a curve in MoI at a given interval of x.

But I did find a round-about way to do this by script. Let me know and I should be able to fairly quickly modify the secondary script I made for my airfoil generating project do what I think you want it to. Or I can post it here for you to mod yourself.

Cheers,
Hamish

Just a thought, the frenetKTcurve script is finding z values for uniform x values. (But not exporting them)
