I've been looking at OnShape recently - coming from a SolidWorks background it's very similar, at the moment there is quite a bit of functionality missing but it's still only in beta. Regarding the 5 active project limit for free accounts this is not nearly as bad as it seems - only private projects are counted and if you have used up the 5 active projects you just need to deactivate one (means you can't open it until you reactivate it) before you can activate another (just click a button to activate/deactivate).
I've tried importing a simple .step made in Moi and it worked fine - at the moment I don't think there is even a loft tool in OnShape (although it is supposed to be coming soon) anyway very interesting stuff.

Thanks Frenchy for the link!

Very nice GUI and it runs GREAT on iPad as well. I pretty much think the activation thing is no issue at all. You'd only want to activate projects if you're sharing them with collaborators-- and since that's not the case for us MoI types, there shouldn't be any issue. So FREE is GOOD!

Of course there are no advanced surfacing tools (Blend, Network, Loft), but the filleting is marvelous. I was able to very quickly create the below fillets by EXPORTING as STEP, then loading into Onshape, performing fillets, exporting as STEP and loading back into MoI. Good stuff!

Is this a download? Or do you work online?

OK, so it's online.
But I'm not having any luck having my STEP file show up. And my screen doesn't look like Burr's. Maybe a browser issue - I'll have to experiment more...

Burrman is not usng Onshape. Read the docs on outputting STEP files. You have to right-click in the step file tab at the bottom after you translate the converted Onshape model to STEP. Also BE SURE and set the correct dims in both MoI and Onshape. I used mm for both.

@ Burr
Yes this direct modeling tool DesignSpark is a killer!
Little problem seems you can't export as nurbs format with this free version! ?
So Thanks Max Smirnov for its _Import_OBJ !

Subdiv don't work with a native cylinder of Moi! ?
What we must do for that works ?

PS Byob is also this crazzy VERY FUNNY free language! :) Build Your Own Blocks! :)

The best would be if you learn and understand traditional subd modeling, prior wondering why something not works like you expect....
The model you show in the picture is also very bad and does not resemble a properly modeled subd mesh.

Hope this helps!

Regards
Stefan

A cylinder in Polymodeling are triangles (2 triangles = 1 quad : sometimes Ngons) primitive like shown above
The sub divided object is just the result of the previous cylinder by the Max plugins
I had personally nothing modelised here :)
I must jut refound what are the start proprieties of a volume accepted by the Max Subdive plugin :)
Quad facetts, triangles facetts...
I had believed that the Max plugin accepted and transform the nurbs volumes ! :)

No problem, Burrman! I should never post to the forum in the middle of the night, when I should be sleeping. :-)
I understand all the posts much better today!

I've been fooling around with OnShape. Uploaded a STEP file created in MoI and added some fillets, but how do you download a file in STP format, to reopen it in MoI? I'm using the browser version, not a mobile app.

Thanks!
