Here is a Bordeaux wine barrel preliminary model, created with basic geometry.
The barrel curve profile was approximated with a 2 point clothoid. Unwrap and revolve of 10 and 20 degrees were used to create the bent staves.
Flow of the outer and inner surface, (together), of a bent stave, was used to make the unbent stave, using the centerline of the outer surface, to its unwrap.
Staves may be cut with a constant angle, in a curved jig. The unbent staves show the curve.
