Andrei - Your posting comes at a good time because I purchased NVil just yesterday.

My first thought was - "Do I need all these tools?" Then when watching your YouTube video on modeling a car, I could see you used very few tools.

So, I will give your custom config a try (and eventually your MoI - NVil - KeyShot bridge). I'll accept your word that it simplifies NVil for a beginner like me :)

In the meantime I have experimented with bringing in OBJ files created in NVil to MoI and performing operations. I don't have Rhino/T-Splines, but Max's OBJ import and SubD scripts are working well. I also went the other way and used MoI to build just the basic form for a model, and brought it into NVil for some "organic" tweaks.

Thanks for sharing, and perhaps you could make a NVil video for beginners using your custom config.

Thanks Andrei

All those keyboard shortcuts are very useful. It is the fastest way to work once you become familiar with the program.

My only comment would be that the commands in Grow/Shrink selection are bit long. It is something you use often when poly modelling. All the other keyboard shortcuts are beautifully done being nice and short.

kevjon,
They looks long but when you are press them they are short and your fingers will remember them in seconds, I use them for a long time. Try them and if you will feel that it is too long after working with them, let me know, I'll think what I can change.

Andrei

The inset tool is tricky to use. If you push you mouse the wrong way (out instead of in) you end up with an extra polygon.

The tool tips on all your buttons are extremely helpful to learn the software.

kevjon,
It is how it should be. If you drag it to the left it will Inset Outside, if you drag it to the right it will Inset inside. There a re a lot of situation where you need to make Outside Inset.
I modified Tool Tip of Inset.

Ok thanks Andrei

I was a bit confused which way you push the tool on screen to get the desired result.

Thanks for the updated config, will give that try.

I used Wings 3D a long time ago and it was far behind NVil, do not know how it is now.
