Mauro, thanks,
Silo is out dated, and is not supported for a long time. NVil is like Silo but on steroids and have, I think, the biggest command pool among Polygonal apps, and it continue to increase. Also it has the greatest support.

Dear Andrei,

When I saw your earlier recommendation I decided to check out NVil. Given the quality and creativity of your work, any modeler you recommend merits consideration.

Unfortunately, the details on the site I found (digitalfossils.com) were so sketchy I couldn't even find the system requirements. Is there another site with more information about this program?

Can you tell me, is there a version for Macintosh?

Many thanks,
Mark G.

It is for PC only.

I use Nvil as well, and despite some quirks to it...as a polygon modeler, it is a very good app. It really does get monthly updates and support. It it is also quite feature rich with fast workflow, better then the more popular apps out there.

This is the latest version:

I like modeling in NVil more than modo 601, silo or my old 3ds max.

There isn't much in the way of training, but I found that referencing the Smart Tips panel and fiddling around it's not hard to figure out. If you are familiar with other poly modelers the routines are pretty standard. It's also worth while going through the Modeling section of the NVil Help.

There's lots of helpful stuff (and people) on the forum too:

I just checked it and looks like nothing new in it, just some bug fixing and 64 bit support. But it still have big lack of different tools.

I was pretty excited about the silo update too a while back. Unfortunately it's still riddled with instability. I've experienced far too many fatal crashes with even 2.31 to be able to use it comfortable in the knowledge that I wont lose work.

investigating Nvil now again just for the fun of it:)

I installed the Silo update to have a look. After I installed it I kept getting a message to back up my encrypted certificate. Never seen that before, so I uninstall it.

Like 'em both, but NVil better for modeling.

Pilou,
No NVil is only for modeling. It is dedicated software and this is its strength.

Does anyone know if NVil might run on a Macintosh under Wine emulation? It sounds like quite a program, but there's no Mac version.
