Simple question:

Is it possible to pick an edge of a surface and then straight up convert(+duplicate) it to a curve?

Hi blindfoldjump,

> Is it possible to pick an edge of a surface and then straight up convert(+duplicate) it to a curve?

Select the edge you want to duplicate, then use Copy / Paste, either by the buttons on the Edit palette, or just by Ctrl+C Ctrl+V shortcut keys.

When you use Ctrl+C to copy an edge it is copied as a regular independent curve object so that's what you'll have when you paste it in. After the paste the duplicated curve will be selected.

One thing to watch for - some commands like Fillets work on edge selections and if you have some separate curves stacked up right on top of edges it can then be difficult to select the edge. In a situation like that you need to select the curve and hide or delete it before you'll be able to select the edge very easily. Curves have selection priority over edges so when there are 2 stacked up it will be the curve that will usually be targeted by your click.

Thank you frenchy.
But actually what I wanted was something even more simple.

However I just figured it out. I just picked an edge - and Ctrl-C Ctrl-V - and new curve created from edge.

Just amazed how intuitive Moi is! Such a great software!

Another option is to select the edges, and use the join command... gives a joined curve, so it is one less command that you have to do.

edit: it only works when you have more than 1 edge selected though. ;)
