Hi Gunter, thanks for posting the file, I will take a look at it in a minute.

> As for simple text, how do I do that? I tried the 'text' option under 'draw solid' but that is in 3d.

Moi only currently has a text tool that generates text as solids or curves to use for modeling operations. It does not currently have what would be called "annotation text" that is meant to be just on screen labels rather than geometry.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly you respond.

Hi Gunter, thanks for posting the file. It seems to be working ok for me over here - what I did was to select your oval solid, then run Transform > Deform > Flow. Then at the first prompt I selected the line, at the second prompt I selected the arc and I get this result here:

That's what you will get initially because it transfers your object by taking the distance of a point as located from the start of the base curve, and moving along the target curve by that same distance, extending off the end by a line if it runs past the end.

You probably want to match things by percentages along each curve rather than just directed distance along each curve. For that enable the "Stretch" checkbox option and then you'll get this result:

Also you'll probably want to shorten your base line so that it does not stick out so far to either side of the object - because the object is only contained within a small area of the line it's also only contained within a small area inside the target curve as well. If you make the line fit the width of your object more closely it will also fit more closely to the extent of the arc as well.

Hope this helps, let me know if you are still stuck.

- Michael

Hi Gunter, are you using an older version like version 2.52 instead of the most recent version 3 ?

There have been some fixes to flow in version 3 to prevent that type of unwanted twisting from happening.

In earlier versions you can avoid the twisting if you rotate everything by 90 degrees in the side view so that the 2 path curves are flat in the Top view rather than being arranged vertically, that should probably then flow ok for you in version 2.52 .

Michael, yes I'm using v2.52

So this is weird.. I can get it to work BUT only if I click the arc (which I assume is the target curve) first and the straight line (base line curve??) second.

Shouldn't it be the other way round... baseline first and target second?

Thanks all.
Gunter

Hi Gunter, yes it should normally be base line first and curvy thing second. But the other way may produce a fairly similar effect since mapping from a curved base onto a line will also produce a certain kind of bending effect as well.

In v2.52 to get this type of curve flow to work it was needed to put both curves to be planar in the top view, if you rotate your objects so that it is like that, then it should probably work for you.

But I'd really recommend upgrading to v3 instead, there are a whole lot of improvements in v3 and one of them is to this specific issue that you're running into.

Hey Michael,

Okay, if you say so... :)

Just upgraded and it works perfectly.

Thanks for your incredible support.
