Wow. You did all this with a macro? Pretty impressive.
I imagine something similar may be possible using Applescript. Can you share the basics of how you're doing it? IOW, when you 'update' do you delete the original model in Keyshot, or is that done manually by the user? Can you move/rotate/scale a model in Keyshot and have it 'updated' to the same transform using your plugin?

Chipp- A little off topic, but way back before KeyShot had animation, I wrote a script in AutoHotKey to rotate my model (small camera move) in KS, take a render, and repeat for 360 degrees. Then I dragged all the render frames into Adobe After Effects and produced a smooth video. It worked for a simple rotation, but I didn't have a precise way to predict the outcome or make complex animations. KS animation has a preview for that of course.

I think it would be a tall order to get MoI and KS to have true interactive exchange of data to keep both in sync, without getting both company's working together.

chippwalters,
"Can you share the basics of how you're doing it?"
It is really hard to share basics becouse now it has 500 lines of code and this is not the end.
The basic is that you have to reproduce all actions that you made when you work with Keyshot and Moi also you have to create windows to handle this process that will stick to MoI window.
AHK language is very similiar to Basic, so if you do not have basic knowledge of programing in Basic or in any other languages it will be hard thing I think to start from zero.

"IOW, when you 'update' do you delete the original model in Keyshot"
When you import in KeyShot by selecting Update it will update geometry NOT delete it. Function Update do not intend to delete geometry it just update it. For example you render some geometry in keyshot than you decide to make some chages in geometry, in this case you use Update, and user do not delete anything Keyshot will do it for you.

"Can you move/rotate/scale a model in Keyshot and have it 'updated' to the same transform using your plugin?"
Do you mean update in MOI?
If yes it is pimpossible becouse KeyShot do not export in formats that MoI spupports.

Thanks Andrei for your helpful answers. I think I now get the gist of how things work.

When I said "Can you move/rotate/scale a model in Keyshot and have it 'updated' to the same transform using your plugin?" I was talking about exporting from MoI and did in import with the same transforms applied as the existing model it was replacing. Interestingly, after years of using Keyshot, I did not know about UPDATE GEOMETRY. Cool. Works great as you can edit in MoI and update in Keyshot and it DOES APPLY the transformations created in Keyshot. Great stuff and thanks for that tip.

You've shared enough for me to understand the direction you are taking. Applescript is a bit like Smalltalk combined with an X-talk language and should be able to do many of the same things. Thanks again.

:-)

Me too. What a great feature! Up to now I thought that update magic can only be done with your plugin.

I practically finish it I'll realeas it next week.
Unfortunately it will not work on Mac. It is deal with Windows system, I think there is no way to translate it to Mac.

Full versions of Keyshot, (version 6), will import NURBS data from .3dm file models.
