There is a script for the area of the face of Planar polygons called "polygon face area."
It does not do edges, it needs a planar face. It does not work with curves.

Sorry, currently there is not anything set up in MoI by default to give area or volume measurements. That is something that I plan to work on adding in the future though.

For the time being you would need to export your plane to a different CAD program and measure the area there.

sorry for late answering.
The export-method i used all the time. and it sucks. It works. but it sucks.

The script Brian mentions is pretty cool. It has many limmits, but i think i know how i coudl use it to get what i want.
if it works right, it is very accurat.

Would be very very very cool if you, Michael, could implement something in the future.
