Would it be possible to also add an option to the offset shell command so that it thickens in situ? So that rather than just the flip direction it can also thicken equally in both directions 50% of the value, so the new part remains centered.

Hi Paul, I was able to add this for the next beta. Instead of a "Flip" checkbox, there will now be a "Direction:" dropdown there, with 3 possibilities: Normal, Flip, and the new Centerline option:
