Moi and KeyShot5.1Pro

This is the first render I've done with the Pro version.
The source was a Moi swept surface from a new script.
Pro would not import the 3dm file. It was necessary to use Rhino to do View/Shaded on the 3dm file. 3dm File size jumped from 39 kb to 54 kb.

>>>EDIT: With a proper install, KeyShot5.1Pro WILL directly import Moi .3dm NURBS data.<<<

No, I did not select Geometry/Import NURBS Data.
I'm too dumb tonight to even find such a checkbox. It is in the manual...But the manual does not show where to find it... :-(

It's on the import screen that you select Center Geometry and Snap to ground, Go to the last option and open it up, the Import Nurbs data is there

I do not have an import screen. It must be in demo mode or ?...

EDIT: There is an import screen AFTER a file has been selected.

Hi Brian - Do you have the HD version or the Pro version ?

HD does not render NURBs directly. I can't find any screens that will say what licence type is active. When i start KS here i get a start-up type of dialog screen that shows thumbnails of recent projects, that dialog also has an "import" button, do you not see this when you launch keyshot ?

Hi Martin
I purchase and have the Pro version.
I have an email in to David Farris at Luxion. His assistant prepared the Key.
I tentatively think the key is wrong. I have an active button for "animation," (I think) ,which I did not purchase.

The Settings\ render NURBS selection and the Motion Blur selection are greyed out.

I'll post results...
- Brian
EDIT: Install was bad.

I am swinging that way too buddy. Having the greyed out Motion Blur would make sense if you don't have the Animation activated, but you should be able to import and render NURBs with the pro version. If you tested the trial before going with a full licence it might be complicating things. It might be worth deactivating your key and reinstalling, make sure to have a copy of the key somewhere safe before you do though ;) ... I already made that mistake once - lol

All the best in getting it sorted Brian

Okay, here is what I learned.
I called David. (He does not have an assistant :-) )
David turned me over to Bruno, who had never heard of Moment of Inspiration. I told him that Michael Gibson created Rhino, and later Moi.
Bruno wanted to know what kind of .3dm file I had. He had me do a .3dm import.
Bruno said that Step214 files may be the type to use, as they keep Nurbs information.

Select import, from the directory select file to import, (for examble Moifile.3dm,) THEN, (insert DUH here:-), there is an import options screen. Check import NURBS.
Receive warning message that file "does not include 3d geometry. Inside Rhino please select View/Shaded prior to saving it."

So then Rhino can be used to Shade the Moi 3dm, and then import it to KeyShot5Pro. (I did that yesterday, not sure what difference the NURBS checkbox makes.)

My conclusion is that Moi .3dm files cannot be DIRECTLY imported. EDIT: This statement is FALSE.

>>>EDIT: With a proper install, KeyShot5.1Pro WILL directly import Moi .3dm NURBS data.<<<

I'll try some other formats later. Step and Obj probably.

Wow Brian - that works way differently to mine here, surely it can't be a Mac OS X thing. I can tell you from my side of things that I can import 3DM directly from MoI, or Rhino. If I try to import Rhino models into KS with no render meshes, KS moans about no 3D geometry present, but selecting the Import NURBs option on the import dialog fixes that nag screen.

I am totally confused here and don't know what to say :/

Do you use Skype - I know there is a way to share my desktop view with you somewhere with Skype so I could show you. If so PM me with your Skype name and i'll add you in :)

Hi Martin,
Thank you for your help.

I think I've made some progress.
My internet connection at home has been very poor the last few months.
I quickly deactivated the home KeyShot5.1Pro.
At the office, I re-downloaded KeyShot5.1Pro, and installed and activated it.
NOW the Moi .3dm files WILL import with the Import Nurbs checkbox. (No import without this checked.)

Initially upon startup, the menu Settings\ Render Nurbs selection is greyed out.
After a Moi .3dm import, the menu Settings\ Render Nurbs selection is no longer greyed out, and has a check. The .3dm is displayed in KS5Pro.
If this menu Settings\ Render Nurbs selection is unchecked, the .3dm vanishes from the KS5.1Pro screen. If rechecked, the .3dm re-appears.

So the home pc install appears to be defective.

I'm going back to previous posts and indicate which statements are Incorrect.

- Brian

ps. I've read that, (for a one "seat" purchase,) KeyShot5Pro may be installed on 3 computers. (Only one is Activated at a time, the others must be de-activated.)

Hi Brian, that's great to know it's working as it should now.

** I have only basic turntable animation. (Did not purchase Animation upgrade **

I am not sure but i think that should be enough to trigger motion blur. If you start a simple turntable animation, then if Motion Blur is allowed it will become selectable on the settings tab

Have fun playing Brian :)

You will learn to love the "update geometry" when working with MoI - no plugin required - Yay!
