Is there a tutorial on making threads for a screw or bolt. I found and watched the tutorial by cubyfan on making the thread cutting part but cannot find the one that comes next on how to use it.

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe, usually the next step after building the thread is to do a boolean.

See here for some previous examples:

Also a longer video here:

Pictures of the Higbee threaded firehose connectors were recently posted on the Geomagic forum.

Michael,

Thanks for the speedy response! Great piece of software, and being able to do threads was the last thing I was evaluating prior to my purchase, although it is more involve than i suspected! :)

again, thanks for the info.

How about a script that makes threads, bolt heads and thread taps for you joe?

Hi Martin, is it the one Burr writes about above or are you thinking of different one?

The discussion thread for the video is here, if there's something specific inside the video you're referring to it may be there:

Hi Michael - I am thinking of another one, I played with it a couple of years ago and I am sure it offered a drop down list of different bolt sizes such as M10 M12 M20 etc ... What's bugging me is I can't remember if it generated the full bolt or just the threads. I think i can remember that you had to select if it was internal cut too.

INCREDIBLE!!! Just what I was looking for. Although make hex rod does not seem to work properly. It has a pull down menu for different nuts and bolts but if a bolt is selected only the bolt head is generated.....??

Hi Martin, sorry I don't remember that one... Maybe the original author or someone else who uses it will know about it.

Hello,

I think this is the script you're looking for made by Martin3D. I've never tried it but it looks slick, faster than my manual method.

Hey Martin,
it "IS" the script by martin3d.. You are in that thread discussion also....

Both have "pull downs" for some of the sizes martin3d needed... Max smirnov had made an updated version of one, the hex rod...

The makethread script will make a full thread tapered out at the top to a cylinder....

The hex rod script will make the head for a bolt, of some type of dimension, which can be attached to the thread you made. It is also used for "nuts", to then be used in conjunction with the "MakeThreadTap" script, which will make an object to cut out the nut, or cut screw holes on objects....

The one link I posted will have links to the 3....

Hi all,
times goes by and finding all those scripts again on the forum was not as easy as I hoped. Anyway here are the download links to the most recent versions of the thread cutting scripts

External threads
makeExternalThread-Oct-17-2012.zip
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5451.1

Internal threads
makeThreadTap-Oct-19-2012.zip
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5473.1

Hex rods
makeHexRod.zip (improved by Max Smirnov)
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5489.10

Note that you can customize the scripts by opening the .htm file in a text editor. Instructions can be found in the text.
