Naked (help)

Hello guys,

I'm trying to finish a model, and I'm facing some naked edges troubles.

The 2 objects (in attachment) are supposed to be solid, but I have lots of little naked edge (I cant even see where they are).

I'm not sure if there is a way to resolve it, except maybe rebuilding the model from scratch.

Isn't it something to do with tolerance ?

Hi PaQ - the naked edges here seem to be compressed micro edges and kind of distributed around the shape sort of evenly so it makes it difficult to see where they are.

In Rhino there's a command ShowEdges which will help you locate them in this case because it marks the endpoints of the edges with a control point dot so you can see it even if you can't see the edge itself.

They seem to be clustered in 6 different clumps.

Maybe they'll get squeezed out of existence if you separate the model, scale it down, and then try to rejoin, I'll give that a try first.

Hello PaQ,

Upon initial investigation it looks like you just have six small areas to clean up. I doubt you'll need to recreate the model.

I managed to extract one of them, and it's a little tiny 4 point curve with all the points stacked up on top of each other, it makes it think it's a closed curve...

Probably the pieces will need to be untrimmed and retrimmed to get rid of these.

Yeah only the 4 surfaces around each of those pink dots that show above will need to be extracted, untrimmed, and retrimmed. And some of the surfaces have natural boundaries and so don't need to be retrimmed. I'll see about cleaning it up for you.

Hi PaQ,

You're welcome! It's likely that they are some side effect from an intersection bug but it's difficult to track it down after the fact...

Panda looks great!
