I can not get MoI to save .obj or .3ds files and the 3dm files do not open with any size in Carrara(5Pro)?

Appreciate advice.

I didn't have any problems loading an OBJ export of my current wip into Carrara?:

A quick render with some slapped on metal materials:

Granted I'd like the object to be a bit smoother than it is and some other stuff
but it got in there with just some obvious selections within the OBJ import dialog...

Hi Brian, I haven't heard of this problem before. Can you please describe the steps that you're doing?

For example, if you go to File / Save As and type in "c:\test.obj" inside the File name: box, does it not create that OBJ file for you?

One thing to note - you must have surface objects that will be turned into polygons when saving as an OBJ. If you only have curves it won't make anything.

Hi Brian, it is normal that those curves saved directly would not work (since there is no surface there to mesh), but after you do a loft it is supposed to work. It works fine over here...

Make sure when you do the loft you push the "Done" button to complete the loft.

Other than that I'm not sure what might be going wrong.

Can you try a test with just a sphere? (go to Draw solid / Sphere to just draw one of those).

When you save to an OBJ file, after you close the file dialog where you choose the file name, you are supposed to see a "Meshing options" dialog that lets you choose what density of polygon mesh you want to create.

Do you never see the "Meshing options" dialog? Is it possibly off to the side a little bit or something?

I worked through all the things you said and the stuff came up as you indicated and I was able to save.

Dont know how I was not getting all those things to show up before though. Thanks.

Hi Brian, what I suspect was happening was you were doing the loft, and then going to Save before exiting the loft command.

That would cause the Loft command to cancel out, which actually removes the loft. So when you were saving the loft wasn't actually there.

There are several commands that let you change options and stuff like that before they are complete - loft is one like this. For these commands you have to push the "Done" button (or right-click in a viewport or push Enter) to finalize the command before it is all done. Otherwise if you start a different command (including save) before pushing "Done", it is the equivalent of canceling.

I'm glad you are rolling now!
