Bulged shapes

Hi there,

I'm trying to make some floral shapes that have a bulged look (see attachment).
No problem to make with poly modellers.

But how can I do this in MOI?
My attempt was to do a loft and it gives me already fairly good results but it should look a bit more organic.
Maybe you have a better idea?

Hi mark, those can be easier to do in a polygon modeler - if you're already familiar with using a sub-d modeling program you may want to do them there instead.

In MoI you can get the tail part pretty easily doing 2-rail sweep but it tends to be more difficult to get the rounded head portion to be shaped well all in one sweep. Some people do the front part separately from the tail to help with that.

If you want to experiment with the 2 rail sweep way, it goes something like this - draw one smooth outline curve for the rails, then use Edit > Trim with the "Add trim points" option to cut it into 2 pieces:

Then to do a sweep along that, draw profile for the cross-section away from the rails, select the profile, run Construct > Sweep and then pick the rails to get a result like this (see 3DM file attached):

This method can be difficult though if the head part kind of tries to bend very sharply on one side...

Using Michaels curves in the example you could also Extrude the two curves (caps off) then Blend the two surface edges, gives you a similar result with bulge adjustment.
