Hi Kevin,

Your curve network is almost there. There is a gap between the intersection of the cross strings shown in the screenshot below which was causing the screwy surface.
I've attached a version where they now touch at that intersection and Network now works.

Cheers

Thanks very much Danny, that's more like what wanted.

How did you get the two curves to align so perfectly. Try as I might I couldn't do it. There was always some sort of gap, but pretty hard to tell just doing it by eye.

The reason I ask is that now that the surface has been created, I'm not happy with it so I need to tweak the curves to get my fin more like the shape I want but they will come out of alignment again.

I also tried you curve setup in Viacad 9 out of interest and network surface couldn't be created.

So the current score is MoI 1, Viacad 0.

I think I better stick with Andrei's loft loose exact technique for these shapes, its less picky than network and tweakable.

Here's another way I just tried with the Nsided tool, coming off some extruded surfaces.

Interesting way of surfacing blowlamp, thanks for trying out something that's a bit different, always good to see other approaches.

Unfortunately with that tool it does surface the area but ends up loosing the nice straight mechanical airfoil shape I was after.

This is a go using Sweep.

I altered the rails slightly (join and trim) and used all the profiles as well as a Scaling rail.

Hi Kevin,

> How did you get the two curves to align so perfectly.

I thought I'd do a short video instead of trying to explain it in words on how you can tackle this situation.

Cheers

Hey, Danny thanks very much for that video. I learned a lot by watching it.

I think it is must see viewing for anybody who needs to set up a curves for a network surface and diagnose why it isn't working.

I liked your technique for diagnosing the problem.
I did not know you can drag curves without affecting the other points and the whole curves location.
Your "guide line" is really good way of sorting out the intersections between curves to give you some snapping points.

I'd pretty much given up on network a few years ago when coming across these kinds of problems constantly and getting unexpected results. I have relooked at it now because it is quicker to setup and more precise than the loft loose exact method and I know Michael has done a lot more work on them in V3.

Once again cheers, I now have a bunch of network curves to set up for the rest of the aircraft.
