Rhino to Moi

Hi Guys,
i have a question according to a .3dm construction data created with an CAD program and edited in Rhino4.

My project uses Blocks and Instances, something Moi can’t handle right?
So to keep the data simple for Moi and for myself i made some layers and assigned my different parts to the different layers. Now I save this file as a .3dm and open it in Moi.
The whole layers have been correctly converted to styles and all objects are shown on top of the browser, but they’re together in one default style. I think it’s the nested block or the instances.

I found two suitable workarounds.
At first I export each layer as .step and merge them afterwards or less suitable I make an BlockExplode on each object of my layers which solves the problem but kills also my performance and usability of the model.

The question is how can I fix this problem or is there another quick solution?
Maybe only a change in Rhino’s save settings?
For me it’s important to have all objects in the right moi styles like the layers in Rhino.

Maybe you have some hints for me!
Cheers

Hi Poebel, right MoI does not handle block instances so you need to run the Explode command in Rhino first before saving out the 3DM file, so that your block instances are converted to regular objects.

After that though their layer assignments in Rhino should come through as style assignments in MoI. If you still have a problem with the styles not working after that, can you please send an example file to me at moi@moi3d.com so I can take a look at it and see what's going on?

Hi Max - I don't have any specific schedule planned out for v4 yet...

Hi Michael,

thank you for the fast answer.
The solution you mentioned works correctly but Rhino gets very slow and for many layers, block´s and objects its not the best way.
I think i will do it like i said in my post, save all layers as an .3dm and merge them afterwards.
There is a well working skript on "McNeel Wiki" which batches the .3dm layer export. It's called "Export Layer Objects".

Thank you anyways!
Cheers
Thomas
