Fantastic news

Would you consider adding the Customui that Max wrote ?

It has made my ring design work probably 50% faster especially the object library

It does not cluster the interface and has 4 very useful areas for functions I regularly use.

The lighting styles are very cool and I find the car body suits jewellery

Kind regards
shayne

I would treat the CustomUI as a 3d party plugin maintained by the developer as it would be another thing Michael would have to consider with each new release and I'd rather him working on new features and not spend time debugging the stuff that's been developed for convenience.

It's like asking if we could have all the scripts that have been developed to be included in MoI, I like how MoI is now, less is more and if you want the niceties like the CustomUI just plug it in.

I would ask the question to Max if he could make an executable to install the customUI for you, I would even donate for that.

Just my thought.

Hi shayne,

> Would you consider adding the Customui that Max wrote ?

No, I haven't really thought about doing that. I do want to include something along similar lines in the future but I haven't had a chance to do it yet. For example the lighting options I would probably end up putting under the View palette rather than on the bottom toolbar.

But by all means if the customui helps you out you should install it - that's what's nice about being able to customize MoI, that you can use extensions that help you out.

I take your point about Michael developing new features. I would consider the customui bar a valuable feature that is so useful it has my vote,
Convenience has its place in life also :)
The very simplicity of it works well within the MOI layout, not overcluttering the screen (its dead space down there anyway).
Its so good I also would donate to max for an installer.

Hi Michael,

I am new to Moi and this Forum and like to write first of all that I am really impressed with your work and the Moi community.
Please can you advice if anyone would buy the current version now, would that include a free upgrade to version 3?

If that will not work, can you provide an indication when the final release of v3 is expected?

Thank you and best regards,

Tarek

Yes, I'm planning on doing that. I have not worked out all the specific details yet for how far back from the v3 release date free upgrades will be covered.

I still don't have a specific date set, but hopefully something like a few weeks from now. The main thing remaining is some work to update the documentation.

I've been ready to buy for some time now, but having a very circumspect department of bean-counters to keep happy, I've been waiting for the upgrade details. Can't go back to them in three weeks and say I need another $100 for an upgrade to a program I just purchased.

And I'm SURE I can't live without V.3 ...

Just say the word and you've got my cash.

M.

Thank you Michael,

I used the free trial version for a while and couldn't resist to buy the licence for version 2 this morning.
It would be great if this purchase is within the free upgrade cover for version 3.

I really like this Software!

Best regards,
Tarek

Hi Tarek, thanks for your order, I'm glad that you are enjoying MoI!

> It would be great if this purchase is within the free upgrade cover for version 3.

Yes it will be, you will get an automatic upgrade to v3 when it's released. I'm not sure yet exactly how far back the free upgrade "grace period" will extend for but it will definitely be far enough that any orders placed now will be covered.

Hi Michael,

I finally got a decent machine for running MoI (a used MacPro5.1) and I look forward to v3 as well!
Unfortunately I couldn't spend much time on my hobby since back then, hope that'll be different now...
Thank you for your dedication!

Best regards,
Chyman

Wow, good news about the imminent release. I totally forgot about this thread (no email notification?).
Michael, do make sure that you inform as many people as possible about the release. MoI is really great and deserves attention. If you need help with marketing and spreading the word, I'll help where I can.

Stefan

Hi Michael,

Firstly great to see a lot of exciting stuff that you're adding for V3 - the last time I posted here was about 6 years ago!
I'm still teaching SolidWorks (product and furniture design) and toward the end of the year I show my students alternatives to SW especially packages that are more affordable - previously I believe the Moi3D EDU version was an unrestricted license - is that still the case (and for V3 too)? I think Moi is a great fit for the product design and ID as it gets out of your way and lets you focus on designing much more than other CAD programs I've used. Also it good to see you've done a mac version - I don't use a mac but a lot more students are using them now and they love to complain that SW won't run on them.

Thanks again,

Tobi
