Is there a way to import an iges file and retain its materials, or at least the selection for them. I am importing a file with two distinct metal surfaces on one object. I need to be able to maintain the selections.

Hi Johny, it depends on how the IGES file is structured - if the IGES file has the separate material pieces assigned to different levels then they will come through, see the attached IGES file for an example of that.

If the data is not separated into different levels then it won't come through - MoI's importer expects to map IGES levels to styles.

A "level" is basically the IGES concept of a layer...

Another possibility is if the separate parts are assigned different names, those names will then come in and you'll see them in the "Objects" section of the scene browser in MoI where they can be targeted for selection. It's possible you may need to disable the automatic joining on import for the names to come through, I can't quite remember. That's a setting under Options > Import/Export > IGES options.
