The GSOC projects for this summer have been announced and they include NURBS improvements for Blender.

I doubt it will replace MoI, but having 3DM import in Blender will hopefully make it easier to bounce back and forth between the two programs. Parts can be modeled in the program that is best suited for them.

Having the ability to handle both nurbs and polys in one modeling program is definitely an advantage. FormZ and Rhino come to mind as two applications that have had this ability for a very long time.

What I have been hoping for is some new surface description format that will effectively replace both. That would be a breakthrough, and would eliminate a lot of wasted time and/or redundant effort.

I know about T-Splines and PowerNurbs, but neither is quite there yet.

Hi Steve,

This is a cool goal, but unfortunately it's very easy to grossly underestimate the amount of work involved in NURBS CAD data interchange.

It would be great if it did actually happen but it's probably a quite difficult task to finish within one summer. Maybe if it gets started with enough good momentum it could be an ongoing thing though.

Sorry I left Amapi out, yes they did have nurbs too. I am still using Hexagon, which I think carried over many of the functions from Amapi.
