Dragonbite Stylus

A personal project that we've been working on for the past couple of months. Its a replacement cap for a Bic cristal pen that works as stylus for capacitive screens.
Most of the time was spend on getting the tolerances of the 3D print right. Also making the right coating for the tip required a lot of trial and error.
It is 3D printed (SLS) at Solid Concepts in carbon filled nylon, which is conductive enough to work perfectly as a stylus.

I could have used that conductive nylon for an electrostatic project, a few years ago.

Does the Stylus work on Samsung galaxy s4 cell phones?

Thanks everyone! It really means a lot to us :-)

The tip is not really soft. Early on in the project we decided we didn't really like soft tips. Our coating is a lot less flexible and thin than most styluses (around 0.5mm). Just enough to smooth out the print and protect the screen. The lack of flexibility is compensated by the pivoting tip. It should last for years.

We've tested it with all iOS and Android devices we could get our hands on (including the S4), and it works perfectly. The total resistance of the stylus is around 20Kohms, which is really low compared to the human body resistance which is in the range of Mohms.

Verve looks amazing but i haven't tested it yet as its only for windows. It should work on something like the Surface Pro or any other device with a capacitive touch screen.

Frenchy, i love Bilal! And most of the great french comics artists (Moebius, Edika even Reiser!). But its not me in the video. Thats Vangelis, the guy that I'm working with. I wish i could read french just for the comics. As it is, i have to settle for greek translations.

What is price and availability?
Would this be beneficial to a senior citizen, such as an 80 year old grandmother, who is
slowly beginning to use an s4 cell phone, after an upgrade from a flip phone.
If only the letters were not so small.
May need to Velcro it to the phone though :-)

Brian, i think a stylus would definitely help an 80 year old grandmother. No just this one, but any stylus. Finger dexterity goes down with age and a stylus helps with all the swipes and gestures.
I really wish there was a way to make a stylus with a smaller tip but thats impossible without using electronics. Any touchpoint less than 6.7mm is ignored by all iOS and android devices due to their accidental touch prevention system. A smaller tip is better for small letters.
The Dragonbite stylus is available now for €18.65 + €3.00 shipping. SLS printing is still a bit expensive, especially when using somewhat exotic materials. We where lucky to find someone to make it for us even at this price level.

Mauro, thank you! I'm a big fun of your work, especially your Alfa Romeo models.
