Hi rob,

Sorry no there isn't currently any way to do mesh component import into MoI like you're describing... That is something that I'd like to maybe figure out in the future but it's a difficult area to do without leading to various types of confusion for people who don't know that those elements are different than other ones that you have drawn directly in MoI and why the imported file does no interact with their drawn objects.

Right now to eliminate that entire category of confusion I have not pursued doing those types of imports for now.

A lot of people move the whole project over to a polygon modeling program once you have one piece of it that has become polygonal data.

Thanks for the detailed reply Michael.

I hope you do consider incorporating an STL import function, I'm sure those who get confused by the polygon/ NURBS differentiation will be able to work out why booleans aren't working on their STL import ;)

Well I know for sure from my previous experience developing and supporting Rhino that a lot of people will not be able to work that out, it's an easy thing to get confused about.

I think the confusion may be reduced if I can figure out a good auxiliary place to put the import, like under some kind of "reference geometry" section or something other than the regular file import... I'm not sure where that would be yet though.
