Make2D and project units

Hi, I'm working on a project and I am working in meters, and I have both big objects (>10 meters) and small objects (1 cm). My question is, does the Make2D command have better results if I work in centimeters? Is it sensible to the scale of the scene?
Regards, Max.

Hi Max, there are some bugs in Make2D which are fixed up for the next upcoming beta which could make problems when your objects were located a fairly long distance away from the origin point, especially if you had curves included.

Also in the initial version, Make2D is sensitive to the scale of the objects, it didn't care about what unit system you happened to be using but more about the overall numeric size, like if you had things sized around 0.01 units or smaller numbers than that (just with the numeric values themselves, it does not matter what unit system you have, unit system does not really affect things, it's the numeric size of your geometry that's importnat), that could also make for problems as well. This should also be tuned up in the next release as well.

I'm trying to wrap up a new beta before I head off for a week of vacation, so hopefully I'll be able to get you some new stuff for this real soon here.

Yes, the scale of some objects does indeed go lower than 0.01 meters.
Thank you Michael, I would really appreciate that!

Hi Max,

> Yes, the scale of some objects does indeed go lower than 0.01 meters.

The update helps make tolerances to be relative to the overall size of the stuff being processed, so it will probably help with that although if you still have objects very much larger than that being processed for the same export that can still be a problem.

That should at least improve the result!
Anyways, is there any way to manually set the tolerance?
Looking forward to give it a try soon.

Hi Max,

> Anyways, is there any way to manually set the tolerance?

No, not currently. It will be automatically calculated as a fraction of the overall size of the stuff being processed with the next beta.

Hi Rudl,

> what is Make2D, I haven´t seen it yet.

It's a new command added in the last beta, which basically does the same thing as saving to PDF format but just generates those curves inside of MoI rather than writing them to a file.

To use it you need to set up a shortcut key and put in Make2D as the command name.
