Jet Biplane

Hi,

I'm an Industrial designer from New Zealand, currently living in Australia. Have been using MOI for a while now, mainly to make vehicles in my spare time. Was inspired to join after reading Mauro's Alfa thread; I was brought home from the maternity hospital in an Alfasud ti, learnt to drive in a 145 (with the 1.6 boxer engine) and have owned a couple of 156s. Currently designing a T33 Stradale remake, and have used MOI for a few details.

Attached are some renderings of my first fully finished piece. I used Blender for the UV unwrap and renders, really looking forward to the next update, where they should preserve surface normals on import too. The plane was loosely inspired by the old Albatros scout from WW1- I wanted to capture biplane proportions with futuristic materials.

Really cool design Nick - the detailing makes it look like something from a space age Leonardo DaVinci!

Very slick!

Hi Nick,
This is really great work, very creative, love the detail and colours.

I had two 145's, one cloverleaf TS and a 1.8 TS and really miss them, one of my favourite Alfa's, just loved the shape of them and the drive.

Thanks guys, pretty chuffed to be mentioned in the same breath as DaVinci!

@Rich_Art, I used the Cycles renderer inside Blender. There are a few inconsistencies in the mesh as Blender doesn't handle imported normals well, but some I fixed by hand and some I can live with- they look like natural flaws in the finish.

I'm tempted by the MiTo, the price has come down and I enjoyed the way it felt on a test drive, but I just can't bring myself to like the front end. Hoping the rear-drive Giulia due next year will be everything we've been waiting for. Sounds promising so far..

I suppose it's no surprise that a light, powerful, elegant NURBS modeller with great curvature like MOI attracts a high proportion of Alfisti.

@Mauro, I'm hoping your next Alfa model is the big-brother to the GTAm, the TZ!

Ah ok. Thanks. :-) I'll stick to C4D for rendering. :-)

Peace,

Dear Alfisti (Alex and Nick)
I hope Mr. Sergio (Fiat CEO )will give to Alfa the right consideration that deserve !
Hope Also they'll mantain the Alfa-style,without Chrysler's influences
He putted Alfa in a corner for long time...!!! (i don't like that man )

I think Montreal will be my choice because is my favourite era (70's)
but i'm able to do also original 33 Stradale

Here TZ
take a look at the registration plate: UD 111832
Car is an original Autodelta creation, made here in first factory, close to my home
I did same registration plate in my 3d model just changed numbers (my birthday :) ) UD 301062
