It's just for regulate the 2 extremities of the object to boolean Diff from the big one!
Cut Path with 2 extremities choosen and sweep!
But caps are perpendicular to the path!

I suppose you know the Transform Orient / Orient for Slide an object perpendiculary (or not) to a path! :)
