Dual screen

I have just downloaded this awesome program. I was wondering if there will be a possibility (maybe in the next Beta-release) to move the command-panel and the, like I understood from another thread, upcoming new panels to a different screen when working with a dualscreen setup? Just like in Rhino, Autocad, Photoshop to mention a few.

Hi Bruno, I'm glad you're liking the program!

Unfortunately it will be quite a bit of work to do an update like this. I'm trying to wrap up version 1.0 right now, so generally stuff that involves rather time consuming work will be postponed for a little while. So I don't expect to have any dual screen enhancements show up in a beta until after 1.0 is finished.

The main idea for improved dual screen is not moving new UI/toolbar panels to the second screen, but rather having the option to open up a whole new viewport container window so that you could put another viewport set on your second screen. So for instance that would allow having a maximized 3D view on one screen while you worked in a maximized top view in the other screen. That will probably be the first step.

I would also like to eventually set up the UI so that it is generally more flexible and customizable but that will be a pretty major overhaul so that is quite a ways out.

Hi Michael,
your idea to give the possibility to open a new viewport on another screen is terrific and, well why not, revolutionary. When you can achieve this, your program is miles ahead (for this aspect) on let's say Autocad (still one of the majors in CAD, having a lot of programmers and marketing-guys, and a big budget to spend). Alone for that reason, it would be revolutionary. Imagine, ONE person (named Michael) running a small company, against one of the major companies (named Autodesk) is offering a possibility that will be very usefull and practical, which the major can't offer (it's like David & Goliath stuff).
So I am looking forward to this possibility, and if it's not this year, I hope it will be the next one.
Keep up the good work and many thanks for your efforts.

By the way, I am a teacher in Autocad in evening-schools for about 8 years now, and if it's fine for you I will suggest my boss to let me start a course about MoI. I will do the same for Google SketchUp. So we will offer two quite easy 3D-programs, which are (for the moment) totally free to the people. This will give the people the opportunity to use 3D-programs to realize their ideas (where have I heard this sentence..?) for free. And maybe, this will cause a pricecut for the major programs and ,again maybe, people will use less cracked software. I know, I am maybe dreaming a bit, but still...

Best regards,
Bruno

Certainly, that would be really cool!

But MoI will only be free through the end of the beta, which isn't too much longer. The final version will cost around $200. Not free but a heck of a lot more affordable than something like AutoCAD for instance.

I think that I will be doing a special deal for teachers who want to install it in a classroom for teaching it, so it should be easy for you to do a class with it.

Thanks!

- Michael
