Any plans for variable fillets/chamfers in MoI

Hi Michael,

I understand that this is what might be considered a 'power feature' but it's one of my most commonly used features in Rhino. I also understand that it can be computationally very taxing (especially when attempting a whole model at once). Is this one of the features on the development roadmap for V4?

Cheers,

jm

As I understood it there are no more major new features planned for V3 (and I'd consider this a pretty major feature) but you never know Michael might have something on a steady simmer, ready to bring to table for V3! That would be might fine news indeed.

Hi Jon, yes it's been on my todo list for quite a long time now - it is definitely something that I want to implement in MoI.

Splendid news. I take it this will be a V4 feature or is it likely for V3?

I'm not entirely sure one way or the other quite yet.

Not to stir the pot, but has the prospect of cage thing and the other enhancements to Blend been becoming a bear?

Already, for the record - the V3 Beta, as it stands has well enough weight to sell as a new product.

Best of success on clearing some more of your 'to-do' list!

Great addiction. However, I think annotation tools should get prio over that.

Wow that would be splendid!
If not for 3, than one of the first things in 4 please. :-)
Fillets are my main gripe in MoI and variable ones would solve many of my problems.

I'm really looking forward to how it will be implemented!

Cheers,

Tom

Those are still things I planning on looking at and trying to determine how long they would take to implement well.

At the moment I'm still working on tuneups to the hidden line removal stuff so I haven't yet had a chance to really assess what exactly will be the last set of features to try and squeeze into v3.

Right now I just can't make any promises as far as what will be in v3 versus v4, sorry.

Hi Max,

Unfortunately I expect annotation tools to be a very time consuming area of work because it will involve implementing several commands, probably inserting a new section of tools into the UI and so trying to do that carefully with an eye to long term results of that, and also probably touch other feature areas like file export as well.

So that's a highly significant and broad reaching feature area and not anything like a "squeeze it in" type thing.

Hi Michael and all others.

To work out annotations like in other big cad software canĀ“t be the goal for moi. To much stuff.
The minimum annotations could be length, angle and radius. If you work manually you can build everything with it.
Some people in the forum work with maschines and some have to write little programs for her mill.
I believe that they would be happy to have the distances in the style of coordinates. From a zeropoint in x and y.
With this scheme you could help the most people for the first time. If you plan to have more stuff in the annotations then later
you can build it up. .... or not

This are only my thougths about < annotations in moi>.
Hope it helps a little bit.

Cheers

Hans

I personally would be happy if MoI would concentrate on it's core strengths - great 3D modelling, easy to use, light on the eye, uncluttered.

For me, every improvement in the Fillets area would be the most welcome addition together with more deformations.
Not only variable width Fillets, but also better handling of cases where edges run down to zero width or where fillets come in contact with not only one patch but overlap or touch a second geometric feature.
Of course that is only my personal needs and YMMV.
I just wanted to state it anyway ;-)

For the other stuff I just bought ViaCAD Pro last night.

Cheers,

Tom

I agree. For me, the operation that fails the most is Fillets. I know why they are failing and it's generally when I have a tapered situation or sharp angles.

Having new advanced features does no good if one can't get the basic modeling accomplished.

Not to be taken as a criticism, just an input - I enjoy using MoI.
