hello
Inside SimlabComposer
Curious: all formats Nurbs files from Moi work except 3dm!
Maybe something in the headerfile?

Does this the same for you ? Or do you make something special inside Moi before the Exportation , Colors, Name,... ?

MoI does not export render mesh like Rhino does. Most software that reads 3DM just look for the render mesh data rather than the NURBS surfaces. If you have Rhino and choose to save without render mesh data (save small) then you should have the same problem with rhino 3DM too

<< if you have Rhino

I have not :)

So other nurbs format will work :)

But what is better ? Direct Nurbs format working from Moi or for example OBJ export from Moi ?

Possibilities of Import formats inside SimLabComposer

OBJ is not a NURBS format. It's a polygon format. Normally, if your app supports NURBS formats you don't want to output as polygons and degrade your model.

With MoI you can export as SAT, STEP or IGES. They're all NURBS formats and they will keep your geometry details 100%. Of course not all programs treat all formats same but after a little bit of investigation you'll find the best working exchange format for you.

Sure but I am not aware if SimLab transform the Nurbs format in polygons format before rendering! :)

There are very few render engines that can render a NURBS surface, the vast majority have to convert the objects into meshes. Does Simlab ask you to set a Tessellation parameter or a smoothing amount. If not then it's either using its own default settings which it considers good for all or it really is rendering the NURBS surfaces. The best way to test this is by doing something like a wheel and then zooming in, if you then render the view and you can see straight lines forming the illusion of a curve, then it's most likely using a render mesh.

SimLab converted nurbs directly during the import, not before rendering.
Thus is probably good to use Moi-mesher.

Hi Pilou, yes I'd recommend exporting to OBJ format for transfer into SimLab Composer. Also at export time set the option for "Output: Quads & Triangles" in the Meshing options dialog when you do the export.
