It's a new feature in the last couple of v3 betas, you can now select a "point object" as one of the profiles for lofting to make the loft start and/or end in a point.

You make a point object by using Draw curve > More > "Point".

Then select it just like you would a profile curve before doing the loft. You'll also want the most recent Nov-19 beta as it has some improvements to getting the points sorted better when you group select all the things to be lofted.

Lofting to a point tends to work best with the "Loose" loft style, put the point in the same plane as the start or end profile curve and you can then make stuff with a smooth closed end like this:
