"Zebra stripe analysis simulates that
the model is built in a chromed material and is placed inside a cylinder with regular stripes in it. The
reflection on the shape enables the detection of different types of continuity. This was a particular
development based on a system that was used in automotive industry. Vehicles were placed in showrooms
where the ceiling was lined with fluorescent lights strips. Their reflection on the model was studied in order to
evaluate its shape."

Just for fun:
Here is a try at zebra stripe in Keyshot, of a MoI Model, seeing as how a cylindrical black and white light source is needed.
The bip file was via Alibre, as the Keyshot 3.x I have is the Alibre associated version, which only permits bip import.
The striped zebra.hdr file is just a renamed PNG file created in MoI, which is loaded into the Keyshot environment.
Is this a zebra stripe showing surface continuity levels?
- Brian

Is there anyway to export bip files from MoI? Cannot find anydetailed description of the bip file format. It appears that
the Keyshot company makes plugins for other cad programs, for example Sketchup...

Hi Brian,

> Is this a zebra stripe showing surface continuity levels?

In looks like it is in some areas, but you're also getting a lot of additional artifacts that are just from a low triangulation density as well. You'll want something like this to be very finely tessellated so that triangulation artifacts will be minimized as much as possible.

Not any way that I know of - as far as I can tell the .bip file format is not publicly documented.

> I have is the Alibre associated version, which only permits bip import.

I guess it is intentionally limited to a private undocumented file format so that you can only use it with Alibre. I think the regular non-limited version supports a lot of various other file formats and not only .bip .

I think you need something that maps to a sphere better

What is a bip file?
Because in 3dsmax that is the norm of a file animation! :)

Hi Pilou,

> What is a bip file?

I think it's the native data format for the KeyShot renderer, containing mesh data, materials, lights, stuff like that.

Keyshot can import step files. I haven't done any critical comparison whether MoI's conversion is better or faster than KeyShot's, though, but the latter seems fine, and it could save a bit of storage space too, all depending on complexity, of course.
