nice one, indeed...

only one thing i don't like, and it is a good example to ask Michael how to get rid of it :

the lines in the middle of rounded surfaces...

i guess they are from some symetry or near...
i often get some unwanted lines that i can't get rid of...

so, Michael, what do you think ?

Hi Naxos, I think that those lines that you are talking about are the edges of surfaces.

That's a part of how NURBS surfaces work - every surface is actually a 4-sided patch, although in some situations like a sphere some of the sides are pinched down to a point.

But on closed surfaces such as a cylinder, there will be an edge line on one part of the cylinder. This is the spot where the "seam" of the cylinder is - imagine that the cylinder is like a sheet of paper where 2 edges have been brought together to make a tube.

Is that the type of line that you're talking about? It is hard to get rid of them because they are basically part of how the geometry functions... I guess I could try to hide them or something.

Normally when you export to a mesh, those types of lines should not be visible in a rendering because MoI does a "welding" procedure that unifies mesh vertices in those areas. I believe that Steph turns off welding for this type of technical sketch rendering in order to purposely get accents along the original surface edges.

If you have an example you could post (including .3dm file) of the type of line that you're talking about it might help me understand more.

Great rendering and discussion.

Of course I'd say if it's not too hard to implement a switch for the rendering of seam edges then I think it would be nice to have the option to turn them on or off.

Hi Will, one thing you can do right now is select those edges and use Edit/Hide to turn them off.

They will turn back on if you do any more editing to the object, but that may be helpful if you just want to check things out for a moment and those edges are bothering you.

In version 2 I want to add a variety of display options, including some quick options for suppressing all edges, at that time I'll try to also add an option to only suppress the display of seam edges.
