You might be missing something.

Have a look under Draw Curve > More > Conic and enter an Rho value of 0.5
Is that what you want?

Look for Rho in the MoI help file for more info on conics.

It's close, but i feel it's me missing something. Draw an eclipse curve, than use conic to for a bullet head, nose cone shape etc, try a rail revolve and it fails to produce a paraboloid as expected :(

There are elliptic and hyperbolic paraboloids.
"Mathematics: a geometric surface whose sections parallel to two coordinate planes are parabolic and whose sections parallel to the third plane are either elliptical or hyperbolic"
