Twist donut

I am trying to twist a profile curve around a donut.

I first made the profile curve, revolved it around the circle to make the donut. I just can't figure out how to twist it.
I've tried twist, history etc. but clearly I'm doing something wrong.

Could someone please tell me how to do this.. Thanks in advance.

There will be a couple ways. Here's 1.

Create donut circle (cyan) and use unwrapcurve to get staight line. Create profile and extrude the length of the staight line. Run transform twist on extrusion and then tranform flow and flow the staight twisted extrusion to the circle.

Thanks for this!

So I'm a complete newbie and know nothing about codes. I understand the unwrapcurve is a plugin. I downloaded it but have not idea how to 'install' it.
Would you be able to guide me?

Thanks much!

Sorry, I forget which is an included command and which is custom.

So you will have 2 files named UnwrapCurve. A js file and an htm file. These both are placed in the "commands" folder of the MoI installation. (Be sure MoI is not running)

For windows, you can right clcik your moi icon and choose properties-open file location. Or "X:\Program Files (x86)\MoI 3.0 beta Aug-1-2013\commands".

I dont know how for Apple.

Then either make a shortcut with the command part as UnwrapCurve or just hit tab and type UnwrapCurve and hit enter.

No worries, I managed to get the plugin installed.

The difficulty I have now, is that when I try to flow the twisted straight rod onto the donut, I can't seem to get it right. I appear to be picking the wrong curve.

In flow, it asks to pick the object to flow. I pick the twisted straight rod. It then says select the base curve or surface. I select the circle of the donut. It then says
select target curve near matching end. I select the profile of the straight rod and I get a weird shape.

Sorry about this...

Another question.. Is there a way to transform one object and get the same transformation in another?

Thanks very much Burrman.

Flow
Select a "base curve" for project a curve on a surface

Select a "base surface" for project a curve ,surface or a volume on a surface or a volume !

<< Is there a way to transform one object and get the same transformation in another?

Take an object, make a "mirror"
all transformation of the first object will change the second object! (Move, Size, Rotation)
As soon as the first or second object will have any personnal transformation link will be broken!

Hey gunter. You need to reverse the curve order you are using for the flow. The base curve is the straight line of the extrude. The target will be the circle. You are flowing the straight to the circle.

"Rope" making is a lot easier with the Flow and Twist commands.
